The earliest candle dipping in the entire calendar — and the only one in September, on a Wednesday afternoon, well before Advent. It is also the only one advertised expressly for children without an adult: from age 5, on their own, for one booked hour — everywhere else the organiser requires an accompanying adult.
Good to know- For children from age 5, unaccompanied. Cost CHF 6.00 per child and slot — the only session in this calendar charging a participation fee rather than a wax price; everywhere else you pay by weight or per candle. Registration is required; places are limited.

It is not the parish that dips candles here but a design educator with her own team — the parish provides the room and backs the event. She is thus the only individual named as the holder of a candle-dipping event in this calendar — everywhere else the field carries a parish, an association, a centre or a company.
Good to know- The three dates have been in the parish agenda since 18.09.2026 («Bereitgestellt: 18.09.2026») — a good four weeks earlier than the 2022 edition went online (14 October).
- Price CHF 3.00 per 100 g of candle; according to the announcement the Glarus-Riedern parish covers a substantial part of the material costs so that candle dipping is open to everyone. Bring boxes to carry the candles home.
- Children under 12 with an accompanying adult, no registration needed, refreshment corner with cake, fruit, coffee, syrup and tea. Extra dates can be reserved for closed groups and school classes.

The earliest opening day in the city of Zurich — the first wax pot here is warm ten days before the Zurich candle dipping on Hechtplatz. (In the canton, Winterthur-Veltheim opens two days earlier.) And it is the only place in the calendar with a «candle cloakroom»: unfinished candles are hung up and completed on another day.
Good to know- For 2026 the organiser publishes only the opening day («The next candle dipping will be open again from 4 November 2026») — no end date and no daily opening hours. We do not write down an ending that is stated nowhere.
- Published prices: coloured candles CHF 3.80/100 g, beeswax CHF 4.80/100 g, white blanks for over-dipping CHF 4.00/100 g. Wick CHF 1.50 (deducted again from the finished candle, except for multi-wick candles).
- Minimum price CHF 3.00 per candle.

Good to know- The front of the courtyard with bars, snacks and the fondue chalet is free to enter. A single show costs CHF 14.90 for adults, CHF 9.90 for ages 10–16, CHF 6.90 or 5.90 for ages 6–9; free up to age 5, children only with an adult.

Dipping is not all that happens here: there are torches and fire pots outdoors, gel candles in a glass, bowls made from recycled wax, beeswax wraps and amaryllis dipped in wax. It is run jointly by the Royal Rangers and Life Church, not by a parish.

In 2026 the Klaus is chased on Friday 4 December — not on St Nicholas Eve: the 5th falls on a Saturday, and the society's rule then moves it to the Friday before.
Good to know- Well over 200 Iffelen — lantern mitres up to more than 2.5 metres tall with punched-out ornaments — move through the darkened streets.
- Over 1,500 men take part, close to a thousand of them bell ringers; up to 30,000 people watch.
- From 2 November onwards, whip crackers can be heard somewhere in the village every evening.
- At 8.15 pm sharp a mortar shot silences the crowd and the lights go out. Order of the procession: whip crackers, Iffelen, St Nicholas with his Schmutzlis and torch bearers, the band with its three-note chord, the bell ringers — and the horns last.
- The general assembly of 28 November 2025 shortened the children's procession route: a break at the Lindenhof car park instead of the extra loop via Bahnhofstrasse, Geissacherstrasse and Luzernerstrasse.

The 8th edition: light installations by international artists on squares, landmarks and in the lanes of the old town and around the lake basin — as a winter walk.
Good to know- With a ticket: a light show in the Jesuit Church and guided Lilu tours.
- The walk through town is free and takes about 2 hours; the light shows in the church last about 25–30 minutes, about 50 with a live concert.
- Lilu goes ahead in bad weather too. Dogs are welcome on the walk, not in the light shows.
- Street lighting at the staged sites is switched off as far as possible; the power is Lucerne hydro power from ewl, partly from the plant at Mühlenplatz.

Good to know- Advance tickets until Tuesday 19.01.2027: CHF 8 per adult; after that CHF 12. Free for under-16s, but they need a ticket.
- All installations are included in the ticket; only the show in the German Church needs a separate ticket (6.10, 6.50, 7.30, 8.10 pm, plus 8.50 and 9.30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays).
- Murten station is a 7-minute walk from the festival; from Neuchâtel there is the LNM boat. The organiser recommends weekdays and Sunday evenings, when it is quieter.
- Every evening from 6 to 9 pm, personal lanterns float on the lake, each with a wish that a visitor wrote or drew on it.

Good to know- As of 28 October 2026 the website says the Seebad Enge sauna remains closed; it can only reopen once the lake level has risen for good. No 2026/27 season start is given.

Each of the 475 entries carries its own source with a read date — organiser, municipality or cantonal office. Municipality and canton assignment follows the official municipality register of the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (FSO); cantonal and municipal publications are reached via opendata.swiss and the federal authorities via admin.ch. The compilation itself — which fixture runs when and where, and where two of them meet — is an own ConvivaPlus analysis and appears in none of those registers.
