Candle dipping Allschwil: when a rule is published but no date

Most organisers publish a date. The Allschwil-Schönenbuch parish publishes a rule: «over the first Advent weekend». In the village everyone knows it. Anyone searching from outside finds no date at all — and that is exactly why this page exists.

Key takeaway
The Allschwil-Schönenbuch parish candle dipping takes place, according to the organiser, over the first Advent weekend. ⛔ No year's date is published. The first Sunday of Advent 2026 falls on Sunday 29 November — the weekend derived from that is our calculation, not a commitment by the parish. Dipping is in colour and in beeswax.

Good to know

🔎 What sets this candle-dipping session apart

Allschwil is the only entry in our entire survey with the evidence status «rule» — and therefore the page that shows whether we really hold the line between a rule and a date. A rule says: «always over the first Advent weekend». A date says: «on 28 and 29 November 2026». The first can be derived, the second is promised. We write both down and keep them apart.

Why that is more than pedantry: if the parish moves it one year — for a renovation, a service, a funeral — the rule is not wrong, it simply does not apply. A date written by us would at that moment be false information with our name under it. In Thalwil exactly that happened: the session there is cancelled for 2026.

In substance, Allschwil is one of the most accessible addresses in the region: alongside classic dipping there are blanks ready to be simply coloured. For a child who has had enough after five minutes, that is the difference between «we are leaving» and «I made my own candle». Plus a small offering of coffee, tea and cake.

🎯 How to plan the visit without arriving at a cold wax pot

Without a published date the order reverses: ask first, then plan. Three points.

  1. 1
Ask the parish before travellingThe rule exists, the date does not. A call or a look at refallschwil.ch is not caution here, it is the only reliable information.
  2. 2
Blanks to colour — the way out for the impatientWith a child who will not dip forty times, you take a ready blank and just colour it. Very few places offer that.
  3. 3
School classes and the public share the offeringThe parish explicitly addresses both. Anyone seeking quiet comes at the weekend rather than on a school day.

🗺️ Where this session sits in the season

In the canton of Basel-Landschaft the dataset records 1 session — this one. The nearest alternative with documented dates is in Basel, where five offerings are recorded, two of them at the Christmas market with a four-week run.

Nationally the densest day of the season is 29 November 2026, with 17 sessions running at once — it falls exactly in the weekend the Allschwil rule points to.

📋 Rule instead of date🎨 Blanks to colour☕ Coffee, tea and cake

For families in Allschwil and Schönenbuch this is the neighbourhood session — short, close by, with blanks for the little ones and a coffee for the grown-ups. Anyone living in the village needs no date: the first Advent weekend is common knowledge.

For everyone else it is the hardest address in the region, because there is no date online. Anyone unwilling to phone will find five offerings with published runs in Basel.

Freshness note: ⛔ No date is published for 2026. The weekend named above is derived from the organiser's rule and is NOT confirmed by the parish. Checked on 8 September 2026.

💎 Golden nuggets
The non-obvious — researched, not copied
  • A rule is not an appointment: «always over the first Advent weekend» can be calculated but is not promised. We keep the two apart instead of writing down a number.
  • Why that is not formalism: in Thalwil the event is cancelled for 2026. Anyone who had carried the rule forward there would have sent families to a locked building.
  • Blanks instead of forty dips: for small children the difference between «we are leaving» and «I made my own candle».
