Read the shared start and conclude «Chur has a Christmas market until Christmas» and you are right about one and completely wrong about the other. This is not an insider detail: it decides whether the trip up from the lowlands is worth it.
In practice: the opening weekend is the only moment in the whole season when both markets run at once. If you visit the Grisons capital once in Advent and want to see both, you have exactly those two days – after that, Bahnhofstrasse remains and the old town is an old town again.
And there is a second consequence worth knowing before you are disappointed: the market that runs long is the one on Bahnhofstrasse – not the one in the medieval lanes. Come for the old-town setting and you must aim for the opening weekend. Come simply for a market and you have time almost until Christmas.

Chur is strong for an Advent day out if you pick the date deliberately: the medieval old town is the finer setting, Bahnhofstrasse the more reliable address. If you are travelling up from the lowlands and want the lanes, put the visit on the opening weekend – then you get both in one day.
If you have to stay flexible, you only get one of the two here. If you want a long continuous run, Winterthur or Basel serve you better – there the market is open every day for weeks.

Mir sind am zwöite Adventswuchenend uf Chur und hend de Wiehnachtsmarkt i de Altstadt gsuecht. Dä isch scho lang verbi gsi. Dass es zwöi verschiedeni git, hemmer nie kapiert.
Genau das trennen wir hier auf: Zwei Märkte, zwei Vereine, derselbe Starttag – aber der Altstadt-Markt dauert zwei Tage, der Christkindlimarkt an der Bahnhofstrasse bis zum 23. Dezember. Beide sind unten einzeln mit Zeitraum und Quelle aufgeführt.
Für Einheimische ist das klar, für Auswärtige nie. Das Eröffnungswochenende ist der einzige Moment, an dem beide gleichzeitig laufen – danach bleibt nur noch einer.
Wir fahren wegen der Altstadtgassen hin, nicht wegen der Grösse. Und wir nehmen jetzt immer das erste Wochenende, seit wir den Unterschied kennen.
