The Christmas market closes on 24 December – the square does not: the same Waisenhausplatz then hosts the year-end market from 28 to 31 December 2026 and the New Year market from 4 to 9 January 2027. No other place on this list opens a newly named market after Christmas.
Good to know- Range of goods: mainly ordinary market wares – for handcrafted work, Bern's address is the Münsterplatz.
- As of 8 September, the operator had not yet published detailed opening hours for 2026; its website still showed the 2025 times.

- Organiser
- Verein Berner Münster Weihnachtsmarkt
The only market on the list with an admission rule instead of a list of goods: whoever exhibits here must produce in their own workshop and make one-off pieces – for almost 40 years now.
Good to know- A 10- to 15-minute walk from Bern station, or by tram/bus to Zytglogge and through Münstergasse.
- In the Mix-Hüsli, young craftspeople each exhibit for one week – so the range changes during the market period.

📍 Location and access of the markets
Two markets in the same town rarely stand in the same place, and «old town» is not a route. Hence every published location separately — the square, the station, the lane.

🎒 Entry and weather — what the organiser announces
Is there an entry fee, is there a programme, and what happens in a storm? These are the details an aggregator drops because they differ from market to market — which is exactly why they stand here.

❓ Common questions about the canton
Short and sourced: every answer is calculated from the 3 checked entries for the canton of Bern, not estimated.
How we check
Every date comes from the organiser's, the municipality's or the canton's own site — never from an aggregator, never copied over from last year. Next to each source is the date we last read it.
Where only a fixed rule is published, such as the eve of St Nicholas' Day, we work out the date and label it “calculated from the fixed rule”. Anything not yet published stays open — we don't guess.
Something missing or changed? A note below is enough; we check it at the source.
