Candle dipping in Teufen: here the calendar says who runs the wax pot

Most organisers publish a run and an opening time. Teufen publishes eight individual operating days, each with its own hours — and for five of them, which team runs the wax pot that day. That is unique in our entire survey. On the same page, however, sits a trap.

Key takeaway
The Advent candle dipping at the Stofel parish centre (basement, Stofelweid 1b, 9053 Teufen) runs from 2 December 2026 to 11 December 2026 10 calendar days, open on 8 of them. ⛔ Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 December are closed. Price: CHF 4.– per 100 g of coloured wax. Children under 8 only when accompanied. Advance booking requested, dropping in possible without guarantee. The event is carried by the Catholic parish of Teufen-Bühler-Stein.

Katholische Pfarrei Teufen-Bühler-Stein (Jugendarbeit, KJAT und Jubla Rotbach)

The only session in this survey that publishes WHICH team runs the wax pots on which day: the KJAT team on both Wednesdays, Jubla Rotbach on Saturday and Sunday. Elsewhere the calendar gives only the hours.

Good to know
  • Price: CHF 4.– per 100 g of coloured wax. Children under 8 only when accompanied by an adult. Insurance is, according to the organiser, the participants' own responsibility.
  • Advance booking via the online tool Nuudel is requested; dropping in is possible but without guarantee.
  • ⛔ Cross-checked on 12 September 2026: the run and the eight operating days carry the year 2026, and every weekday-date pair fits 2026 (2 December = Wednesday) and no other year. The registration link and the linked flyer on the same page, however, are still labelled «Kerzenziehen 2025» — open the flyer and you read last year's figures.

🔎 What sets this candle-dipping session apart

Anyone planning a candle-dipping visit usually looks for two figures: from when to when, and what time of day. Teufen supplies a third that nobody else does — who is at the pot on that day. On both Wednesdays it is the KJAT team; on Saturday and Sunday, Jubla Rotbach. It sounds like a footnote and is, for a child, the real reason to want a particular day.

The second peculiarity is the shape of the window: 10 calendar days, 8 open days — and the gap is not at the edge, it is in the middle. Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 December are closed. A date list printing «2 to 11 December» claims ten days in a row and is wrong on two of them. This is not cosmetic: it is a family's second drive with children in the car.

And then there is the place where this otherwise very well-kept page misleads: the registration link and the flyer are still labelled «Kerzenziehen 2025». So we cross-checked rather than guessed, at the one place that cannot lie: the calendar. 2 December is a Wednesday in 2026, exactly as the page says; in 2025 it was a Tuesday. Every one of the eight weekday-date pairs fits 2026 and no other year. The operating hours are therefore current — only the two labels have been left behind.

For planning that means: you can follow the hours at the top of the page, but not the flyer once opened. We therefore name which field is affected instead of distrusting the whole source.

🎯 How to plan the visit without arriving at a cold wax pot

Eight operating days with their own hours, two closed days in the middle and a flyer from last year. How to plan Teufen.

  1. 1
7 and 8 December are closedThe published run covers ten calendar days; it is open on eight. Monday and Tuesday of the second week drop out. Anyone reading only the start and end plans straight into that gap.
  2. 2
Every day has its own hours — and they vary a lotOn Sunday 6 December it is open from 10:00 to 14:00; the Saturday before, from 11:00 to 18:00. Three hours separate the shortest day from the longest. If you are planning an afternoon, check the specific day, not the week.
  3. 3
Advance booking via Nuudel — dropping in works, but without guaranteeThe organiser asks for advance booking through the online tool Nuudel. Turning up without booking is possible but expressly without guarantee. For a trip from outside, booking is worth it.
  4. 4
Under 8 only accompanied — and insurance is the visitors' own affairThe age rule is published: under 8 only with an accompanying adult. The organiser also states expressly that insurance is the participants' own responsibility.

🗺️ Where this session sits in the season

Teufen is the first and so far only entry for canton Appenzell Ausserrhoden in our candle-dipping dataset. On opening day 19 further sessions are running outside the municipality; after that only 2 more begin anywhere in Switzerland. Nationally 34 of 51 entries are documented, across 18 of 26 cantons.

The neighbouring canton makes the interesting comparison: in Appenzell the workshop stands in a convent garden and the event is documented — but for 2026 without a date. Twenty minutes' drive away, in Teufen, every hour is on the page. Anyone in the Appenzell region who wants to dip a candle and needs a date has one right here. The densest day of the whole season is 28 November 2026, with 21 wax pots open at once.

🏆 The ConvivaPlus verdict

The ConvivaPlus verdict

🗓️ Eight days, eight timetables👥 Teams named per day⛔ 7 and 8 December closed

For families in the Appenzell midlands Teufen is the most plannable address in the region: the price is there, the age rule is there, every single day is listed with its hours — and on top of that, who is guiding on that day. No other session in this survey offers that much predictability.

Two things need knowing in advance, and each otherwise costs a drive: 7 and 8 December are closed, and the registration link along with the flyer still carries the year label 2025. The operating hours are not affected — we checked them against the calendar.

Freshness note: ⛔ Run, the eight operating days with hours, price, age rule and booking form come from the organiser (kath-rotbachtal.ch), checked on 12 September 2026. The registration link and the linked flyer on the same page are still labelled «Kerzenziehen 2025» — the flyer contains last year's figures. The operating hours were cross-checked against the calendar: every weekday-date pair fits 2026 and no other year.

💎 Golden nuggets
The non-obvious — researched, not copied
  • Two closed days in the middle of the run: Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 December. «2 to 11 December» sounds like ten days in a row and is wrong on two of them.
  • At the weekend Jubla runs the pot: Saturday and Sunday Jubla Rotbach runs the operation, on the Wednesdays the KJAT team. No other organiser in this survey publishes that.
  • An old label does not devalue data: the registration link and flyer are still called «2025», the operating hours are not. We say which field is affected instead of discarding the whole source.
