Candle dipping in Frauenfeld: where eastern Switzerland's season begins

Of the 47 sessions with a documented date in this calendar, 38 start later than Frauenfeld and only 8 start earlier — and all but two of those earlier ones sit in canton Zurich. The exceptions are a one-hour children's afternoon in late September in Stans (NW), well before Advent, and the six-day session in Oberägeri (ZG) from 3 November. Frauenfeld is therefore the earliest Advent session outside the two densest cantons. If you notice in November that it is still too early elsewhere, you drive to Thurgau.

In return there is a rule that runs openly against the trend of the season. Where others book time slots and school classes take the mornings, the organiser here is plain: during regular opening hours no reservations are possible. Groups of ten or more get selected mornings — the afternoon and the evening belong to everyone. That is a position, not an oversight.

And finally the figure we counted, because it is taken for granted everywhere: of 58 recorded Swiss candle-dipping sessions, exactly 5 are hosted across denominations. Frauenfeld is one of them — Protestant and Catholic run the same room. On site nobody mentions it. In a Swiss comparison it is the exception.
