Delémont Christmas market: not a square but an old town – and a zone just for eating
Most Christmas markets are a square with stalls around it. This one is a whole old town — and it separates the food from the rest, which sounds like an organisational detail and changes the evening.

📅 Dates 2026 and evidence status
Every run below is the one the organiser published for 2026 — nothing is carried over from last year. Where nothing has been published yet, it says so.

This market does not have a square, it has an old town: the organiser spreads it across the whole Vieille Ville and has recently carved out a zone just for food and drink.

📋 Organiser notes
- As of 15.09.2026 the organiser has published nothing for 2026. The 2025 edition ran from 12 to 14 December (Fri 14:00–21:00, Sat 10:00–21:00, Sun 10:00–19:00) – that is last year's state and expressly NOT a 2026 date.
✨ Highlights of this market
What sets this market apart from every other one is not in its run dates.
A Christmas market on a square has a problem nobody writes down: the people eating stand exactly where the people looking need to pass. Beyond a certain density, neither works.
Delémont solves it spatially. The market has no square, it has an old town — the SIRD spreads it across the whole Vieille Ville and most recently set aside a zone for food and drink. In practice: if you want to stroll, you stroll; if you want to sit and eat, you go where that is provided for. That is not an organisational detail, it is the difference between a walk and a stand-up buffet with scenery.
⛔ What is missing in return: a date. As of 15 September 2026 the organiser has published nothing for 2026. The 2025 edition ran from 12 to 14 December, Friday 14:00–21:00, Saturday 10:00–21:00 and Sunday 10:00–19:00 — we carry that as last year's state, for the order of magnitude, and never as a fixture. In the canton of Jura that is not an isolated case: the second recorded market, in Bure, has none either.

🎯 Practical tips for your visit
In Delémont the shape of the market is documented and its date is not — you know what awaits you, but not yet when.
- 1An old town, not a squareThe market spreads across the whole Vieille Ville. Which means: a walk rather than a location, no point from which you can see it all — and far more space per visitor than a square provides.
- 2A zone reserved for food and drinkThe SIRD set it aside most recently. Those who want to eat go there; the other lanes stay passable. For a market in narrow old-town lanes that is the difference between strolling and shuffling.
- 32026 date: openAs of 15 September 2026 the organiser has published nothing. If you need a firm plan, check delemontregion.ch again from November or contact the SIRD directly.
- 4Last year's state is not a fixtureIn 2025 the market ran from 12 to 14 December (Fri 14:00–21:00, Sat 10:00–21:00, Sun 10:00–19:00). We give that for the order of magnitude — not so that anyone plans on it.
🗺️ Nearby markets
The ConvivaPlus Christmas market overview lists 39 markets with a documented run; Delémont is not among them, because nothing is published for 2026. The season goes from 18 November 2026 to 6 January 2027.
In the canton of Jura we record two entries and both lack a date: alongside Delémont there is the Marché de Noël at the Grange de Noël in Bure — the only entry in this overview with a complete street address. Within reach, with a confirmed date, is the Noël des Montagnes in La Chaux-de-Fonds, nine days with published daily hours.

Because people eating stop and people looking want to move on — on the same ground the two block each other, and that is exactly where the feeling that a market is «packed» comes from. A separate food zone frees up the lanes. In Delémont the organiser did precisely that.

In this overview Bure in the Ajoie, also without a date, and to the south the Noël des Montagnes in La Chaux-de-Fonds, with nine confirmed days and published hours.
Christmas markets across Switzerland →The ConvivaPlus verdict
In shape, Delémont is one of the more agreeable markets in the region: a circuit through a self-contained old town rather than a square, and a dedicated food zone so the lanes stay passable. If you want an afternoon of strolling, this is the place.
It cannot be planned today: nothing is published for 2026, and last year's state is not a fixture. If you are pinning December down, take the Noël des Montagnes with its nine confirmed days — and check back here in November.
Freshness note: Location, layout and the food-zone detail come from the Syndicat d'Initiative de la Région de Delémont (delemontregion.ch), read on 15 September 2026. ⛔ Neither a date nor opening hours are published there for 2026. The 12–14 December run and its hours are the 2025 state and expressly NOT a 2026 date. No street address is given.

- ◆Where the food stands decides how crowded it feels: people eating stop, people looking want to move on — on the same ground the two block each other, and that is exactly where the sense that a market is «packed» comes from. Delémont separates the catering. It appears in no announcement as a selling point, and it is one of the few things an organiser can genuinely steer about the experience.
- ◆A complete canton can still be entirely open: in the Jura we record both markets — and a date for neither. Coverage and evidence are two different numbers, and quoting only the first claims a completeness that does not exist. That is why they stand side by side here.
