Frauenfeld Christmas market: the last of the season — and the only one that still saves something
By 18 December almost every Swiss Christmas market has packed up. Frauenfeld only starts then. It is the latest start of them all in this survey — and for anyone still missing a present, the last real opportunity.

📅 Dates 2026 and evidence status
Every run below is the one the organiser published for 2026 — nothing is carried over from last year. Where nothing has been published yet, it says so.

✨ Highlights of this market
What sets this market apart from every other one is not in its run dates.
On 14 September 2026 we sorted the start dates of all 32 pages with a documented date. At the top sits Frauenfeld with 18 December 2026 — and the gap is not a matter of hours: the next-latest market starts six days earlier. By the time Frauenfeld opens, the bulk of Swiss Christmas markets is already history.
That changes what a Christmas market is good for. A market in late November is atmosphere; a market on the third Advent weekend is procurement. On 20 December 2026 nobody can order anything and have it delivered any more — whatever is still missing has to be physically on a stall. Around 160 exhibitors three days before Christmas Eve are therefore a different proposition from the same number on the first Sunday of Advent.
The price is a late Friday: on that day the market only opens at 14:00, while Saturday and Sunday start at 11:00. It is the only day with a late start — and, judging by the comments under this page, the commonest planning error.

Each bar is a documented run. Dark = this market, pale = the nearest ones. Read only a single date and you miss that a neighbouring market has already closed when this one opens.
🗺️ Nearby markets
The ConvivaPlus Christmas market overview lists 34 markets with a documented run; the season goes from 18 November 2026 to 6 January 2027. Frauenfeld sits at the far end of that span — only the two markets that run past Christmas are open later.
In the canton of Thurgau the overview lists two markets, and they could hardly be further apart: Arbon on a Saturday in late November and Frauenfeld three weeks later. If you want a market still open after 20 December, this survey offers only Bern on the Kleine Schanze and Locarno.

Every verified Christmas market →Two in this overview: Arbon on a Saturday in late November and Frauenfeld on the third Advent weekend. Three weeks without a recorded Thurgau market separate them.
Arbon Christmas market →Less for the atmosphere, more for procurement. Three days before Christmas Eve nothing can be ordered and delivered any more — whatever is missing has to be physically on a stall. That is exactly why a late market is the last address left.
The ConvivaPlus verdict
For anyone still looking for something three days before Christmas, Frauenfeld is the last usable address in eastern Switzerland — and with around 160 exhibitors big enough that this is no consolation prize. If you missed the Advent season, you get a second chance here that this survey offers nowhere else.
If you want atmosphere rather than procurement, you are too late: by the third Advent weekend the calm has left the event. And Friday only starts at 14:00. For an earlier Thurgau market only Arbon remains — three weeks earlier, and for one day only.
Freshness note: Run, hours and venue come from weihnachtsmarkt-frauenfeld.ch, source read on 14 September 2026. ⛔ “Around 160 exhibitors”, “some 35,000 visitors” and the 33rd edition are the organiser's own figures; we attribute them and have not verified them independently. The claim “latest start” is counted across the 32 pages in this overview with a documented date — it is not a statement about every Swiss Christmas market.

- ◆A late market is not a bad market but a different one: in late November a Christmas market sells atmosphere. Three days before Christmas Eve it sells solutions — because from 20 December nobody can order anything and have it delivered. Frauenfeld is the only market in this overview to hold that position, and by a margin of six days over the next.
- ◆A figure that comes from the organiser stays their figure: “around 160 exhibitors” and “some 35,000 visitors” appear on the organiser's site, not in a count. We attribute them explicitly — and thereby separate them from the details we read at the source ourselves. Make the two look alike and an overview becomes a brochure.
