Almost every Christmas market publishes its hours on an organiser's website. Not Basel: here the canton stands behind it and publishes them officially – including the closing time on the final day, which differs by two hours depending on the square. Not knowing that leaves you at the wrong square on 23 December.

S Märliwäldli isch für d Chind s Bescht: Zinngiesse, Cherzezieh, Läbkueche verziere, Schmide. Mir sind letschts Johr drü Stund det gsi und hend de Rescht vom Märt gar nid gseh.
Am letzten Tag muss man aufpassen: Die beiden Plätze machen nicht gleichzeitig zu. Wir sind vom Münsterplatz zum Barfi gelaufen und dort lief es noch, während oben schon Schluss war.
Genau, und der Kanton publiziert das sogar amtlich: Am 23. Dezember schliesst der Münsterplatz um 18.00 Uhr, der Barfüsserplatz erst um 20.00 Uhr. Zwei Stunden Unterschied auf zwei Plätzen derselben Stadt – das steht in fast keiner Übersicht.
Auf dem Claraplatz gibt es zusätzlich Essen, aber keine eigenen Daten. Das hat uns letztes Jahr verwirrt, weil wir dachten, das sei ein dritter Markt.
