Liestal Christmas market: the hour after the stalls close – and the day it disappears

Most Christmas markets have two closing times, and almost none of them write both down.

On Sunday that hour is gone. Everything stops at 18:00, stalls and kitchen alike. Put your visit on the last day because that is supposedly when most is going on, and you get the shortest of the four evenings — three hours shorter than Saturday.

And there is something else the organiser's site does not say, because on the ground nobody notices: this market has no address. The organiser names «Stedtli», meaning the whole old-town core, no square and no street. We read it on 15 September 2026 and invent none. In practice: sat-nav to Liestal station, then an eight-minute walk, and you are in the middle of it.

Liestal is its only entry from the canton of Basel-Landschaft — until the calendar of 15 September 2026 that canton was a blank space for us. The ConvivaPlus Christmas market overview lists 78 markets with a documented run.

Anyone with more time finds it twenty minutes away by car: Basel runs two markets, Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz, over weeks rather than days. To the south lies the Chlausemäret in Solothurn, to the east «Advent i de Altstadt» in Aarau — both on the same old-town principle as Liestal, only longer.
