Technischer Kaufmann salary Switzerland: what you really earn, and what the federal certificate is worth
Two professionals from the same workshop, same apprenticeship. One stays at the machine, the other takes the technical commercial certificate, and three years later more than 1,000 francs a month separate them. The difference is not talent, but a federal certificate, and the information about what it is worth. Here is the whole technical commercial specialist salary in Switzerland at a glance: from entry with the certificate through the real median to the management role, broken down by experience and region, plus a calculator that shows you in 10 seconds which percentile you are in.

💰 What does a technical commercial specialist earn in Switzerland?
A technical commercial specialist with a federal certificate earns a median of around 78,000 francs gross per year in Switzerland, that is about 6,000 francs per month, 13th salary included. Median means: exactly half earn more, the other half less. This figure is more honest than an average, because individual executive salaries would pull the average up.
But the single median figure only tells half the story. The salary hinges on three levers: training, experience and sector. Fresh with the certificate you start around 16,000 francs below the median, in a management role you are almost 30,000 francs above. It is exactly this range that we make visible in the ConvivaPlus technical commercial salary index, so that you know where you really stand, instead of knowing just one number.
📊 The ConvivaPlus technical commercial salary index
Instead of a bare number, the index shows you the whole path: from entry with the certificate through the median to the realistic top in a management role. You see at a glance how much air lies between the start and the executive salary, and where you can develop.
According to ConvivaPlus (ConvivaPlus-Index), the index combines the cantonal minimum wages (unia.ch, 2026) with a ConvivaPlus analysis of public salary portals (lohnanalyse.ch, jobs.ch, karriere.ch). The minimum wage value is firm, the experience levels are market values to be understood as orders of magnitude.
Minimum wage: highest cantonal minimum wage (Geneva, unia.ch 2026), full-time. Other levels: ConvivaPlus aggregate of lohnanalyse.ch, jobs.ch & karriere.ch, rounded. Gross salary, 13th included.

Your salary is practically on the median. You earn roughly as much as half the profession, with the federal diploma or a management role there is more to gain.

Salary check: how well do you know the market?
2 questions – test your knowledge
1.By how much does the federal certificate typically lift a technical base profession?
2.What brings the biggest further salary jump after the certificate?
📈 Technical commercial salary by experience
After the certificate, experience is the most reliable salary lever. Those who gather the years, take charge of larger projects and lead a team rise steadily. These levels show the typical development, as an order of magnitude, from the salary portals. The contrast makes it vivid: between the entry level with a fresh certificate (62,000) and the management role (105,000) lie 43,000 francs a year — and the single biggest jump comes not with the years, but at the move from processing work to project and team responsibility.
| Experience level | per month (×13) | per year |
|---|---|---|
| Cant. minimum wage (Geneva, full-time)Legal floor (Geneva 24.59/h); for this profession never binding | 4'131 | 53'704 |
| Entry (fresh with certificate)Right after the professional examination, by sector | 4'769 | 62'000 |
| Median (all levels)Half earn more, half earn less | 6'000 | 78'000 |
| Experienced (10+ years)Routine, project and team responsibility | 6'923 | 90'000 |
| Top (management / executive)Sales or division management; at 35 often 95,000–115,000 | 8'077 | 105'000 |
🗺️ Technical commercial salary by region
Where you work makes a difference, although a smaller one than training and experience. Large regions with a high cost of living and strong industry tend to pay more. Here are the regional averages compared with the Swiss median of 78,000 francs. The effect becomes vivid at the extremes: for exactly the same certificate, you earn on average 12,000 francs more in Zurich than in Ticino (82,000 versus 70,000) — until the higher rents eat up the lead and Ticino often comes out ahead in real terms.
| Region | Ø annual salary | vs median |
|---|---|---|
| Zurich | 82'000 | +4'000 |
| North-West Switzerland | 80'500 | +2'500 |
| Central Switzerland | 78'500 | +500 |
| Espace Mittelland | 76'000 | −2'000 |
| Ticino | 70'000 | −8'000 |
Between the most expensive region (Zurich) and the cheapest (Ticino) there is around 12,000 francs per year, a noticeable difference. But it comes mainly from the higher cost of living, which eats up a large part again. The jump the certificate or the federal diploma brings is worth more almost everywhere than a change of residence.
For technical commercial specialists there is no collective agreement and the minimum wage is irrelevant, because even the entry is above it. That makes the median the most important figure you need to know, because it is the only reliable compass when you negotiate your salary.
ConvivaPlus, technical commercial salary index
🛡️ Is there a minimum wage for technical commercial specialists?
For technical commercial specialists there is no collective agreement (CLA) with binding minimum wages. The salary is negotiated freely between employer and employee. Switzerland also has no national statutory minimum wage, but five cantons have introduced their own.
In Geneva, Basel-City, Neuchâtel, Jura and Ticino an hourly cantonal minimum wage applies. The highest is Geneva at 24.59 francs per hour (as of 2026), which corresponds to around 53,700 francs per year full-time. The key point: because the starting salary with the certificate is around 62,000 francs, this floor hardly ever matters for the profession. Here only the market value counts, and the median of 78,000 francs is your best compass.
| Canton | CHF/hour | Full-time/year (≈42h) | In force |
|---|---|---|---|
| Geneva | 24.59 | 53'704 | since 1.1.2026 |
| Basel-City | 22.2 | 48'485 | since 1.1.2026 |
| Jura | 21.4 | 46'738 | since 1.1.2026 |
| Neuchâtel | 21.35 | 46'629 | since 1.1.2026 |
| Ticino | 20.25 | 44'226 | since 2024, by sector 20.00–20.50 |
Why the minimum wage barely matters here
Only five cantons have a statutory minimum wage: Geneva, Basel-City, Neuchâtel, Jura and Ticino. For technical commercial specialists it is a footnote, because even the starting salary is around 8,000 francs above the highest cantonal minimum wage. The certificate lifts you out of the range where legal floors play any role.
🚀 How to earn more as a technical commercial specialist
Salary is not destiny. Those who know the right levers can raise their earnings markedly over the years. The biggest jumps come not from waiting, but from targeted decisions. Here are the most effective, ordered by impact:
The advanced professional examination as a diploma sales manager, diploma marketing manager or a business economist college degree leads towards management and often brings 10,000 to 20,000 francs more per year, plus access to leadership roles.
Those who master technical sales and key account management, purchasing and procurement, product management or project management (HERMES, IPMA) are more sought after and can claim it on the salary.
Pharma, medtech, the MEM industry and the IT/hardware trade pay above average. Those who carry their technical know-how into a well-paying sector raise the salary without changing profession.
Compare your salary each year with the median and your experience level. Those who know they are below market value have the strongest argument for the salary talk.
Those who lead the inside sales or a sales team, train new staff or take charge of a product segment grow towards sales or division management, with the corresponding executive salary.

The federal diploma is the salary lever, not the minimum wage
In the ConvivaPlus technical commercial salary index we traced the path from the basic technical trade (around CHF 66,000) to the federal diploma (median around CHF 78,000) — and set it against the statutory minimum wage. The verdict: here the diploma is the lever, not the minimum wage. The highest cantonal minimum (Geneva, around CHF 53,700) sits well below the entry level and is practically never binding — what counts is the +12,000 francs from the diploma and the jump into a management role at 105,000 and more. Others cite a single number; according to ConvivaPlus it is the whole trajectory that counts — to place alongside Swiss salaries and the polymechanic.

Deine Zahlen passen exakt ins Bild.
