At all three of Zurich's artificial ice rinks, admission is CHF 8. That does not make them alike: Oerlikon closes at 4 pm on weekdays, the Dolder at 10.30 pm. Heuried has 3 drop-in hockey slots a week and a car park where two hours cost less than a child's ticket. And on 7 days this season, the ice costs nothing at all.

⛸️ Zurich ice rinks: Heuried, Dolder and Oerlikon side by side

Three artificial rinks, one admission price: Heuried and Oerlikon are run by the city's sports office, the Dolder by the private company Dolder Eis & Bad AG. The differences lie in the opening hours, in getting there and in what happens alongside public skating.

If you want to skate after work, the Dolder and Heuried are your options: Oerlikon closes at 4 pm from Monday to Friday. Heuried has an indoor hall and an outdoor rink, a car park and three evenings a week of drop-in hockey, which Zurich calls «Chneble». The Dolder sits above the city at the edge of the forest, best reached by the Dolderbahn funicular from Römerhof. All three are on the canton of Zurich page.

The weekday matters more than the rink

At Heuried, Monday is the shortest day (until 4 pm) and Wednesday the longest (until 10 pm). The Dolder is the other way round: on Wednesdays from 8 pm the whole ice is used for training, on other evenings you can skate until 10.30 pm. When planning an evening, check the weekday first and the rink second.

💰 Admission & sports pass: when the pass pays off

The winter sports pass (CHF 110) pays off from the 14th visit and is valid at all three rinks. Skate hire costs CHF 6 at the city rinks and CHF 8 at the Dolder.

A single ticket is the same everywhere, CHF 8 for an adult. If you skate often, do the sum: 110 divided by 8 gives the number of visits after which the personal winter pass is cheaper. It is valid at Heuried, Oerlikon and the Dolder, there without the ice discos, which have their own ticket.

According to the ConvivaPlus analysis, the season has 7 free days: Afterwork on Ice on Wednesday evenings and two Sundays of «Gratis aufs Glatteis». The first evening, 4 November 2026, is at Heuried only.

Bring a stick and a puck, no club needed, just the right slot: outside it, hockey is not allowed during public skating. The Dolder publishes its slots in an occupancy plan rather than as fixed weekly times (checked on 3 November 2026). Heuried's times are on the rink's page.

🎄 Holidays: when the Dolder is open on Christmas Eve and New Year's Day

The Dolder publishes its own holiday times: Thu 24 Dec 9 am–2 pm, Fri 25 Dec 9 am–5.45 pm, Sat 26 Dec 9 am–10.30 pm, Thu 31 Dec 9 am–5.45 pm, Fri 1 Jan 11 am–8.30 pm.

On Christmas Eve the Dolder closes in the early afternoon, on New Year's Day it only opens at eleven. For Heuried and Oerlikon the city's page lists no holiday times of their own (checked on 3 November 2026); the weekly plan applies until the city says otherwise. A partial closure, like the outdoor rink at Oerlikon, is dated to the day we read it.
