   1. For a money gift, never name the amountThe most common awkwardness. «Thanks for the 100 francs» puts the number centre stage and reads like a receipt. Tactful: «Thank you for your generous gift», rounded off with what you'll do with it: «It goes straight into our honeymoon.»

   2. One concrete detail beats a thousand clichés«Thanks for everything» drifts past. «The espresso machine is already running every morning» sticks. A single concrete detail, what it is, how you use it, proves you genuinely value it, rather than just being polite.
