Online casino legal in Switzerland: 3,566 sites blocked
In 2019 the FGB's first blocklist had 39 casino sites, today it has 3,566. 27 percent of them were added in the last twelve months. Ten online casinos are licensed, all run by Swiss casinos. We counted every edition of the blocklist, and the ConvivaPlus Blocklist Checker tells you which list your casino is on.
Online casino legal in Switzerland: ten platforms run by casinos
Ten addresses against 3,566 blocked sites. An online casino is only legal in Switzerland if a Swiss casino runs it. The casino needs an extension of its licence from the Federal Council and, for every game, an authorisation from the FGB.
The first platform went online on 5 July 2019: jackpots.ch, run by Casino Baden. The most recent followed on 17 March 2026: casineo.ch, run by Casino Locarno. The table shows all of them as the FGB lists them.

Blocklist checker: is my online casino blocked?
Type “starvegas” into the checker and it shows two things at once: the licensed platform of Casino Interlaken and 10 blocked domains carrying the same name.
The ConvivaPlus Blocklist Checker knows every domain on the FGB casino list and the Gespa betting list, 4,186 in total, plus the ten licensed platforms. A name or address is enough: licensed, blocked since which edition, or on no list. What you type never leaves your browser.

Checking an online casino in three steps
- 1Copy the address. Take it from the browser's address bar, not from an ad or a message. One extra “ch” is a different site.
- 2Enter it in the checker. The Blocklist Checker compares it with the list of licensed online casinos and with both blocklists.
- 3Read the result. Only the platforms of Swiss casinos are licensed. Blocked means the FGB or Gespa has put the site on its list. On no list does not mean allowed.
Is Stake casino legal in Switzerland? Not blocked does not mean allowed
stake.com is neither blocked nor licensed. That gap is where the mistake “not blocked, so allowed” lives. The address is on neither blocklist (as of 25 August 2026) and not among the ten online casinos licensed by the FGB (as of 17 March 2026). stake.com therefore has no Swiss licence for online casino games.
Blocked, on the other hand, are 22 other domains with “stake” in the name, including my-stake.ch.
The blocklist records what the authorities have blocked, the other list what is licensed. In between is everything that is neither blocked nor licensed. For online casinos the rule is simple: the ten addresses of the Swiss casinos are licensed, no others.
Casino blocklist Switzerland: from 39 to 3,566 sites
973 casino sites were added to the list in the last twelve months alone. In the first three years, up to the edition of 3 May 2022, there were 570 in total.
The biggest jump came in November 2022: from 570 to 1,025 domains in a single edition. ConvivaPlus counted all 28 editions since 2019, domain by domain. The ConvivaPlus blocklist time series shows every one.
- FGB (online casinos): 39 → 3,566
- Gespa (lotteries, sports betting): 65 → 887
Lookalikes: starvegas.ch licensed, 10 blocked
The licensed platform of Casino Interlaken is starvegas.ch. The blocklist contains 10 more domains with “starvegas” in the name. For “swiss4win” there are 7, for “pasino” 4. And next to mycasino.ch, the platform of Casino Luzern, mycasinoch.ch is blocked.
Whether such a site uses the name on purpose, the list does not say. It only says: blocked. What counts for you is the exact address, character by character. The table shows, for every licensed platform, how many blocked domains contain its name.
| Casino | Licensed address | Blocked domains with this name |
|---|---|---|
| Casino Interlaken | starvegas.ch | 10 |

Online casino illegal? Playing no, advertising yes
No, says the FGB, but you play at your own risk. Advertising a blocked casino, on the other hand, risks a fine of up to 500,000 francs. The two criminal articles of the Gambling Act target operators and advertisers: punishable is anyone who runs, organises or provides casino games without a licence (Art. 130) and anyone who advertises unlicensed gambling (Art. 131).
That is why the block targets the provider: Article 86 requires access to unlicensed online gambling to be blocked, and Swiss internet providers have to block the listed sites technically.
Own risk means: a win at a blocked casino is not tax-free, because the exemption only applies to licensed games. And the law's player protection binds the licensed casinos. They must exclude people who are over-indebted or addicted to gambling, the exclusion then applies at all casinos and to all online large-scale games, and anyone can request it for themselves (Art. 80). Minors are not admitted to casino games (Art. 72). For help with gambling addiction, SOS Spielsucht answers on 0800 040 080, around the clock, free and anonymous; its website also lists counselling centres in every region.
Casino winnings tax: tax-free only at Swiss casinos
A 50,000-franc win: tax-free on a licensed platform, taxable income at a blocked casino. At a casino on site, a win is tax-free with no upper limit, as long as it does not come from self-employment (Article 24 letter i of the Federal Act on Direct Federal Taxation). Online, on one of the ten licensed platforms, it is tax-free up to 1,071,000 francs per win, the tax-free amount from 1 January 2026 (letter ibis).
That applies to direct federal tax. For cantonal and municipal taxes the amount is at least 1,000,000 francs, and each canton may set more (Art. 7 para. 4 Tax Harmonisation Act). Above that, the casino has to pay 35 percent withholding tax to the Federal Tax Administration.
For an online casino without a Swiss licence, none of these exemptions applies: both require a game licensed under the Gambling Act. This is not tax advice: the cost depends on the canton, and our comparison of the 26 cantons shows how much taxes differ.
How to declare winnings: see our guide to the Swiss tax return.
Blocked since 2019: 37 casino sites from day one
Of the 39 domains on the very first blocklist of 3 September 2019, 37 are still on it today. Only two have disappeared.
The list grows and hardly ever shrinks. The FGB publishes every edition in the Federal Gazette, four times in twelve months, most recently on 25 August 2026. A site missing today can be added in the next edition. That is why the checker shows the date of the lists with every result.
