IT Salary Switzerland 2026: What You Really Earn as a Tech Professional

From the apprentice graduate at CHF 5,000 to the Programme Manager above CHF 12,000 – few professions have a salary spread as brutal as IT. “IT specialist” isn't a salary, it's a corridor. We ran the swissICT salary study (261 companies, 38,513 records) through the ConvivaPlus lens to tell you, to the franc, where you stand – and how to climb.

Key takeaway
According to the ConvivaPlus analysis of the swissICT salary study, an IT specialist in Switzerland earns a median of around CHF 10,180 gross/month. The spread is huge: entry with a VET certificate from CHF 5,000, with a UAS master's from CHF 6,923, as a Programme Manager above CHF 12,000. What matters: education, experience and role – not the title.

Starting salary: what your degree is really worth

The first payslip depends almost entirely on your qualification. With a VET certificate you start at a median of CHF 5,000 – a UAS master's starts at CHF 6,923, about 38% higher. Sounds like a clear win for higher education. It's only half the story.

The catch in the academic head start
The master's lead of roughly CHF 1,900 is real – but VET graduates are in the workforce 4–5 years earlier, debt-free and with real practice. Those who keep upskilling (federal diploma, college of higher education, cloud/security certificates) usually close the gap within a few years. The degree opens the door – specialisation decides what you earn after that.

Where the path leads: roles & senior salaries

After a few years, pay decouples from the degree and hinges on the role. From help desk to ICT operator to Programme Manager is worlds apart – nearly +50% at the median.

Context
The top doesn't pay for tech alone, but for responsibility: a Programme Manager (CHF 12,310) runs budgets and teams. To stay purely technical, specialisation (architecture, cloud, security) reaches comparable levels – per jobs.ch the upper quartile hits CHF 123,000 a year, top roles beyond.

Market & negotiation: why you hold the stronger hand

ICT salaries rose 1.7% in 2024 per swissICT – modest, but stable across all levels. The real leverage is scarcity: demand for IT specialists has outstripped supply for years. That's your bargaining power – if you back it with numbers.

  1. 1
Benchmark with swissICT, not gut feelingBring your function, level and region to the swissICT figure. “I'm 9% below the median for my role” beats any “I'd like more.”
  2. 2
Make your specialisation visibleCloud, security, data/AI and architecture are the salary drivers. Document projects and certificates – they move you measurably up the corridor.
  3. 3
Negotiate the whole packageNot just base pay: bonus, training budget, home-office days and 13th-month salary are negotiable levers in ICT.

Salary figures are indicative median values from public sources (swissICT, jobs.ch, FSO). They don't replace individual salary advice; real values depend on company, region, workload and specialisation.
